Introduction
We fully understand that the accommodation must be suitable for our guests with extra needs. For that reason, inspection tours are very welcome and encouraged. Please just contact us to arrange one if you would like to view it before booking.
High Ashes Farm dates back to 1640 however the original farmyard was redesigned in 1843. Florries’ Rest Barn was built in this year. We have renovated it, sympathetically trying to retain, the property’s original features.
We are located exactly 5 miles between Chesterfield and Matlock, Halfway down, High Ashes Lane. Our site is quiet and peaceful, surrounded by green fields with no immediate neighbours.
Monday to Friday, we also run High Ashes Rural Project C.I.C. This is a farming-oriented service, that predominantly caters for the needs of people with learning disabilities and Autism.

Arrival and car parking.
Check-in time is between 4.30 pm – 7.00 pm but, please contact us if you need alternative times.
There is free off-road parking for your cars; this is accessed down the unlit gravelled drive from, Highashes Lane. The parking area is lit.
Florries’ Rest has got level parking outside the main door. The front door, is wide, with a permanent ramp to gain access, to the downstairs.
On your arrival, you will be given a guided tour of the property and help to settle in if needed. Including unloading your luggage. You will also be given the key to the front door.
Via the front door, you walk into a very large open-plan room, that is double height, with exposed stone walls and exposed timber beams. The floor is made of stone slabs with underfloor heating.
At the far eastern end of the room, is the T.V and D.V.D player. In the corner is the log burner. There are two comfortable chairs, and on the opposite side of the room a modern couch, that pulls out to make a double bed.
In the centre of the room is a large dining table that can seat 10 people around it.
At the western end of the room is the Kitchen area. A rustic Belfast sink unit, with a dishwasher underneath. There is a central island with a kettle and coffee maker. On the back wall is a 6 ring range cooker and oven, microwave cooker, toaster and a full height fridge. Pots, pans, glasses, cups, plates and cutlery are all available.
Guests with access needs would require an able-bodied carer to assist them in the kitchen.
Bedroom
Off the main open plan room is the downstairs bedroom, which is accessed via a single step that is 100mm high. Ramps are available to enable easy entry if required. This room has a tile floor with underfloor heating. The large king-sized bed is accessible from both sides.
Ensuite wet room
Level access into the toilet with a low-profile electric shower. The wash basin has lever action taps and is fitted with TVR valves. The floors has nonslip tiles.
Upstairs Bedroom 2
This is accessed by external stone steps at the side of the barn. Please note that these can be slippery in wet weather. At the top of the steps, you will find a patio area, with a bistro table, that has views over the valley.
You enter the bedroom via a large, stable-style door. The room has exposed wooden beams. The floor is wooden tong and groove boards. A king-sized bed and ensuite toilet. The bed is accessible from both sides. There is a freestanding rolltop bathtub in the room.
Outside area
On the ground floor at the front of the Florries’ Rest barn is a seating area, with a wooden bench. Also, a large garden table and 4 chairs. This is covered with a patio umbrella. The floor is covered with large stone slabs. These are level but there is a slight incline to be aware of.
Bike storage /Cleaning
There is an outside tap and hose to wash down your bike if needed. We can store your bike in a lockable shed close to the barn
Smoking policy
Florries’ rest is non-smoking throughout, but there is a covered smoking area at the rear of the barn.
