Out and About

If you like walking, High Ashes Haven is the perfect location. Whatever your ambition, you will not be disappointed as there are miles of footpaths and bridleways in the area. You can join up with the 34-mile Chesterfield Round Walk right from the site, for a circular tour of southern Peak District countryside (it’s split into sections with parking and bus links if you want to take it easy).  If you want to something shorter, you could try the two mile walk to Ashover Rock nature reserve. . A five-minute drive takes you to the Peak District National Park, crisscrossed with walking and cycling trails for all levels of fitness. Most of our guests also take a stroll to Ashover village.

Fancy hiring an e-bike?

We’ve partnered with Peaks and Dales to offer you the opportunity to hire an e-bike during your stay and have it delivered to High Ashes Haven at the start of your holiday.  For more information, please download their leaflet and give them a call to book.

Eating out

If you fancy a break from cooking, we are surrounded by quality places to try. Ashover village has three lovely country pubs, all with their own individual dishes and ales. Why not spoil yourself, just up the lane is the, Peak Edge Hotel with the Red Lion restaurant.

While away the time

Fishing enthusiasts can pass the time at Press Manor Lakes, where there’s coarse and fly fishing for trout and carp as well as fishing lessons for those who want to hone their angling technique. You can watch the sunset and dream of the one that got away! If Horse riding is your thing, you can arrange an exhilarating hack over the fields and moors with our friends at the local stables.

Days out

Family days out nearby include Gulliver’s Kingdom (15 minutes drive), a dinosaur-studded theme park with log flumes and courage-testing rollercoasters. It’s also worth taking the cable car from Matlock up to the Heights of Abraham, a hilltop park where you can venture into massive underground caverns or climb and swing in adventure playgrounds. The award-winning Matlock Farm Park is just 10 mins from the site.

Within a half-hour drive or less, you can see how the other half lives (or lived) at the historic estates of Chatsworth, Haddon Hall to the West and Bolsover Castle and Hardwick Hall to the East.
